California Construction Trucking Association (CCTA)

The San Fernando Valley chapter had its annual smoke testing get together at Charlie and Mary Saied’s yard in the San Fernando Valley on April 13th. 

Dan was able to round up 18 members for his chapter meeting on Saturday, April 20th.

The gathering was conducted the offices of Ugalde Trucking in Yorba Linda. We discussed the always popular topic, The CARB truck and bus rules.

We had a very well attended chapter meeting on March 30th at the Denny’s in Fontana, with 27 members including five other CCTA chapter chairs. 

The guest speaker was Clive Melville of Crossroads Equipment Lease and Finance. Clive was able to share some opportunities and loan options with our members. His expertise and knowledge of the CARB truck and bus rules were put to the test and he was able to answer all of the questions put to him by many of the members.

Peterbilt and the construction industry go hand in hand, so as a truck sales executive in Southern California, it was a natural for me to inquire about joining the California Construction Trucking Association. When I first met Southern Membership Services Director Rudy Navarrete, it became clear that I wanted to join CCTA and become part of this outstanding organization.

At the last Executive Committee Meeting in February, the subject of medical certification became the topic of discussion.

As most of you are aware, when you have your physical and once the paperwork is completed by the doctor, you would send that paperwork to the DMV. The doctor would also complete your wallet card and you were done for two years. However, when I went to pick up the DMV paperwork for my last physical, I was told that I needed to bring the paperwork back to the DMV in order to have it date stamped instead of mailing to them. When I returned to the DMV, my paperwork and wallet card were handed back to me after they certified it in the DMV computer and date stamped the paperwork.

Ronna Brown was attending a seminar concerning Insurance and Workers Compensation in 1998 when a chance meeting changed the course of her life.

During a morning break when several meeting rooms let out at the same time, Ronna met several CARB staff members and companies who would be performing Opacity Testing for California’s newly implemented Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP.) Business cards were exchanged and for the next six months Ronna researched this new industry before making the decision to leave her job and form RB Mobile Diesel Service, and as she admits now “being scared to death the entire time.”

We met on Thursday, February 28th the San Fernando Valley and had pleasantly different get-together. We had a great turnout and the conversations were very engaging. Rudy Navarrete was in attendance and as always a positive force. Some members brought prospective members, which is a great way to introduce them to the real force of the association.

On the evening of February 27, 2013 our San Gabriel Valley Chapter meeting was held with a great turnout, and a lot of updates from our prior winter Board Meeting (Feb. 9th, 2013) at the Diners Bowlium in Montclair, CA. Approximately 20 people were in attendance, along with a large host of 6 chapter chairpersons in the house!
