The California Dump Truck Owners Association established the California Scholastic Program in 1991 to assist qualified students in achieving their goals in the pursuit of higher education. Seven scholarship awards are available each year for incoming Freshman, continuing Sophmores, Juniors and Seniors. Winning scholars will receive the awarded amount to be deposited in their name at the Financial Aid Office of the Campus of their choice, for use when purchasing books, supplies and tuition fees.

Hey CCTA members! My name is Mike Goetz and I was a scholarship recipient back in 2000. A lot has happened since then so I will catch everyone up. I am originally from Napa, CA, but gave up the endless fields of grapes to attend Arizona State University where I graduated Magnum Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Minor in Design Studies. I also played on the men’s volleyball team for a year during my time in Arizona.
Closing that chapter of my life, I threw everything I owned in a U-Haul and moved to Los Angeles to start my professional career as a designer at a global design, architecture, and planning firm in the interiors department. I spent a little over two years in the city of dreams when I realized I needed more training and education to ensure that my dreams come true.

By Angela M. Rodriguez
Greetings, California Construction Trucking Association (CCTA) members! My name is Angela Rodriguez, and my father, Jorge Rodriguez, is a member of the CCTA with his Columbo Trucking Inc. Company.
I was privileged with being awarded a CCTA scholarship in 2006 for my freshman year at Princeton University. As a first-generation college student in my family who traveled across the entire country to attend college, it was such a relief to know that the financial burden of college was one less thing my family and I had to worry about, thanks in part to the CCTA scholarship.
I graduated from Princeton in 2011 with departmental honors in Sociology. My years there were definitely some of the most challenging years in my life, but also a time of incredible personal growth.
My greatest achievement at Princeton was my senior thesis, titled: “Latino/a Parental Involvement and Student Academic Achievement: A Case Study of the Los Angeles Parent School Partnership Program.” This culminating project took two years to complete, and it was inspired by a summer internship I had done with a civil rights organization in Los Angeles.
