By Katie Grande
My name is Katie Grande, the daughter of Dave and Roni Grande, owners of Material Transport located in
My Grandmother, Marie Grande, was the first lady President of the California Dump Truck Owners Association (CDTOA), and was fondly known by her friends of the Ventura Chapter as “The First Lady of Trucking”.
My Grandmother was a great inspiration to our family, instilling hard work ethics and faith into our souls. She believed that “who you are, makes a difference”, and I am living my life by her words.
I am very appreciative to be a recipient of a freshman CTTA scholarship award last year. This is my second year attending Santa Barbara City College, continuing the study of my kinesiology major, with the goal of specializing in sports medicine. This will be my last season playing Woman’s Basketball for the Vaqueros. I will then start my internship with a local physical therapy office. My goal is to finish my general education classes at SBCC, and then transfer to San Diego State University in 2014 to complete my major.
Scholarships like the CTTA program are allowing me the opportunity to reach towards my educational goals and I want to thank the members of this association for their support of this program.
